In 2001 Shihan Legare hosted Soke for a 3rd Taikai, once again in Washington DC. This event stands out as the 1st time Soke has shown his warrior art collection outside of Japan. Members of the Smithsonian and the New York Metropolitan Museum, as well as famous art critic Bruce Helander and former FBI Director, Robert sessions, were on hand to review Soke's artwork.
The 2001 Washington Taikai video earned Shinhan Legare an award from the Japanese Art & Film Society for "Best Sport Film of The Year."
